Montana is the only state that is not at-will: after the probationary period, the Wrongful Discharge from Employment Act requires good cause for termination.

Final Paycheck

Montana employers must pay an employee fired for cause or laid off immediately — unless a written policy extends it to the next payday or 15 days — and an employee who quits by the next payday or within 15 days, whichever comes first.
