DH and I saw Tony Bennet in concert last evening.  Given his age (85), we assumed his voice and performance weren't likely to be what they once were.  Wow - were we wrong.  An absolutely phenomenal evening.  Perfect voice, perfect pitch, tremendous energy and spectacular musicians accompanying him.  Incredible.

He's amazing.  Thumbs%20Up

I got the pure luck of seeing him back in early-90's before he became the hot guy again thanks to MTV.

A local big wig flew him into town and hired the orchestra to play for his 50th anniversary. Since I was in charge of the catering setup crew, I got to hang around up in the crow's nest during the event.

He did an a capella version of a song that filled a 15,000 sqf ballroom. Pretty amazing stuff.

Glad you had a good time and he's as good as he was back them.

Oooooo Tony Bennett! How nice.

Thanks for all the congrats. All of my nieces and nephews are pretty good kids, but this couple is truly special. They've been really great aunt and uncle to her sisters kids for a long time. I'm so happy for them to have their own now.

That's great - congratulations!!

Saw on the news last night:

A local woman who was on public assistance who won $1M in the lottery.  She continued to use her food stamps "credit card" until she was found out.  Her rationale:

1)  The State withheld a lot for taxes.
2)  They didn't turn her card off.
3)  She owns two houses and has bills to pay.

TWO HOUSES???!!!  Gee, my DH and I both work for a living and we (and the bank) only own one house.  Confused

She paid cash for the 2nd house and for a car.
I read that she has now been cut off from food aid. Turns out the lawmaker who is trying to get things changed so those on assistance who win $1000 or more in the lottery have to have that included is a distant relative of hers!

I don't know what the criteria is these days for getting food stamps, but based on several people I know who get them, the bar must be set pretty low.

It absolutely amazes me when I hear about things like the lottery winner continuing to get food stamps. Many years ago, after my husband left me with two small children, I was on food stamps for a while. I remember the hoops I had to jump through to prove that I didn't have any income or own anything of value. And when I got a job, I dutifully let them know and they cut off my food stamps immediately....I asked the woman what I was supposed to do to feed my kids during the two weeks before I would be receiving my first paycheck, and she made some snippy comment about having to "cut the apron strings". It's not like I expected to stay on food stamps once I was getting a paycheck!

It is unfortunate that few stories like the lottery winner overshadow the many success stories like Cynthia's.

On another note, hanging with the kiddo who just had 4 wisdom teeth removed. Teenager with initial drug induced stupor was somewhat hilarious. The second stage pain filled, grunting teen...not so much.

Yesterday I wore spring weight slacks and a short sleeved shirt to work. This morning I woke up and there was snow on the ground. Go figure.

It's predicted to be in the 70s every day next week - possibly as high as 80.  Currently 56.

Packed up the 13 year-old for school trip to Costa Rica. Thought I was going to have to get the wife a valium prescription but she's doing better today. Lots of cool pictures coming across the online journal.

Not a bad Monday. Hope all is well for everyone.

It's a beautiful day here....except for the several inches of new snow on the ground. I thought we were done with winter, but night before last it started snowing off and on. At first it was warm enough that the stuff melted almost as soon as it hit, but then it got colder and we ended up with new snow on top of sheer ice in some spots. No fun! Unhappy
