While we're on the subject of schools, today my son called me and told me that his 6-year-old daughter had fallen at school. The school called his wife and told her that she fell, and "is in alot of pain". They wouldn't tell her what was hurt....did she hit her head? Break her arm? Break her neck? DIL headed to the school to pick her up. They called her back and told her not to come, that they had called an ambulance and just to meet them at the hospital. And still, they wouldn't give her any details on what was hurt. So she calls my son and he meets her at the hospital to wait for the ambulance.
It was close to 45 minutes after the original call that the ambulance showed up (the school is less than a 15-minute drive away) and they found out that she had fallen on her back, so as a precaution they decided to have her transported by ambulance. They checked her out at the hospital and she's just fine, in fact once they unstrapped her from the backboard she was jumping up and down, she was so excited to be able to get up!
My DIL has worked at that school for several years, and it seems like somebody could have called her and told her what was going on, especially when it took so long for the ambulance to get to the hospital. By then they were complete nervous wrecks, fearing the absolute worst. We're all happy that it wasn't serious, but it sure could have been handled better!

Cynthia, glad she is okay.
I will jump on the what are schools thinking bandwagon. Our daughter had a track meet last week that started at 6 at night and lasted until 10:30. By the time the bus returned to the school it was at least 11:00. We live a good 25 minutes from the school so it was 11:30-11:45 before she got home.

My DIL talked to the principal of the school and I guess the whole reason the people in the school office wouldn't tell her more was because they didn't really know what was going on. The medical person who works at the school didn't tell the people in the office anything, and they were the ones who called my DIL. I still am not sure why somebody from the office couldn't walk out to the playground and check for themselves, but apparently there was some reason for it. The primary reason the medical person decided to call the ambulance was because my granddaughter has a kidney problem to start with and she hit her lower to middle back so the woman was afraid she may have damaged her kidney. As it is, she doesn't even have a bruise.
Meanwhile, somehow a rumor started over the weekend that Abby had BROKEN her back and it was all over Facebook! We had dinner at my son's house last evening and my DIL's phone kept chiming with people texting her because they'd just read it. As if rumors don't fly around a small town like this fast enough anyway, now with social media, misinformation can get around even faster!

I didn't mean to start a school bashing, I know the schools have to take a lot of crap from parents as well and get little appreciation for it. It's like anything else in our society you have to worry about lawsuits, you have to make rules for the many because of a few and sometimes you try to do a good thing and end up with unintended consequences.
Wow Cynthia, what a lot of stress they put the parents and child through when a little better communication would have gone a long way.

I think sometimes people who don't really understand who and what are covered by HIPAA get so scared of violating it (even when it doesn't really apply) that they just won't say anything.

Changing the topic a bit.... I just wanted to alert everyone to taking a closer look at their workplace security. We had an incident at my office where someone was let into our secure work place and stole my wallet from my purse in my desk drawer. Apparently this thing has become somewhat of an epidemic according to the police. They were in and out in less than 7 minutes and managed to spend over $5000 on my credit cards before we knew they were missing and were able to shut them down. We thought we were a secure workplace, however, due to this incident we are initiating all sorts of additional measures.

Thanks, Elle..... It has honestly been a nightmare. If I told you some of the details you all would think I'm making it up. Utterly unbelievable!

Wow - that stinks, hrcrazy. Unfortunately, when it comes to thievery, where there's a will there always seems to be a way.
When I worked at the law firm, they are in a donwtown office high rise with all kinds of security for the office, plus a security force on-site for the building. That didn't prevent some thief from coming in after office hours (while there were plenty of people still working!) and stealing a dozen lap-tops. Building security even got the perp on video coming and going with a full view of his face but the police still couldn't identify him and make an arrest.

That's about the extent of it. We have them on video surveillance as do pretty much all the stores they shopped at. I guess the thieves are smart enough to know if they cross jurisdictions it will be harder to catch them. Beth, I know you are in Wisconsin so a special warning to you for your company. It appears there are 'rings' from Illinois that come up here to steal and they high tail it back shopping along the way. Scary stuff!

It's always those SOB's from Illinos.
The downtown building I worked in has a very nice jewelry store on the lobby level - which was robbed big-time a couple of years ago when I was still working there. That's exactly what the police surmised at the time - that it was a theft ring from Illinois.
The companies here that are near the freeways in the Milwaukee area are more at risk. The Illinios theft rings hop off I-94 or I-43, break in and steal whatever they can,and then are right back onto the freeway heading south to the border. Where I work now is nowhere near either freeway (plus, frankly, there's not much worth stealing. )

Three very lucky children are no longer foster kids and are officially my great nephews and niece. So proud of my niece and her husband who are wonderful parents. Love the idea that her sister is planning a shower for them. Hoping I can make the trip to NC to welcome them to the family.

Wow. They'll have their hands full but what generous people they must be. Were the children siblings?

They first got the 2 yr old boy, pretty sure he would be available for adoption. Shortly after they got siblings. 4yr old boy and baby girl, thinking they would only have them for 6 mos while parents got their act together. It was extended another 6 mos. Parents did not get their act together.
The CPS rep asked my niece if they were prepared to adopt them seeing as how that wasn't the original plan. She told the lady, YOU need to be prepared that we will want to keep any child you bring to us.
The registered to be fosters because they were told it could be a fast track to adoption and boy howdy. 1,2,3 they have their hands full.

Sounds like they're well aware of the commitment they're making since they have have the children in their home for a while. I wish their new 'official family' all the best.
