I don't care about the planet as a whole, right now I just want it to be warmer where I am. At least I kind of figured out how to work my woodstove.

Friday was the fourth anniversary of the date my DH and I met. He arrived home from work with a dozen white roses. He's such a keeper.

Signs that spring is almost here:
1) It's not pitch black any longer when I leave work at 5:00.
2) ......................................................................................
Ok, there's no number two but I can dream, can't I?

Hey, #1 would be enough for me! That's always my favorite sign of spring, when the days become visibly longer.
Forget about the idea of robins being signs of spring, however...we have approximately a foot of snow & ice still on the ground from our storm last week and we saw a robin hopping across the parking lot a couple of days ago.

Forgot to mention this last week. Had to attend a UC hearing for an employee I fired in the fall, primarily because he was chronically tardy - 60 tardies in 10 months.
In a supreme bit of irony he was (you guessed it) late for the UC hearing he'd filed for. Arrived just moments before the ALJ would have cancelled the hearing and let the Initial Determination stand (which denied benefits.)

I can't help but wonder why a 24/7 establishment needs a sign that says "no parking on the premises after hours."

I got an email today from a local builder with an excellent reputation. Turns out he was an investor in the co that messed up my kitchen countertops. He recently found out what was going on with the business, fired the people running it and is trying to make amends. He is coming to the house Saturday. Yay!

Help - we are being buried in penguin poo! Most of our snow was supposed to be rained off by today, but instead it started snowing again yesterday and hasn't stopped.
My assistant and I have decided that we would be perfectly happy to go to Hawaii and run HR remotely from there for the rest of the winter.

We had steady rain for about 24hrs so wood fences were pretty soaked. This morning whereever the sun was hitting the fences at an angle, they were steaming. I've never seen that before.

That happens a lot around here. It rains so much that everything is soaked a lot of the time, and then when the sun comes out things start steaming, including houses & trees. I remember the first time I saw it as a kid, our roof started steaming and I ran and told my mom that the house must be on fire, because there was "smoke" coming off the roof!

Our lakes are almost back to normal. Yippee.
Unfortunately, hill country is still hurting.

The Operations Manager is conducting interviews today with employees who posted on an opening in the warehouse.
One of the plant employees just came up for his interview wearing a hand-made paper necktie on which he'd written "I'm your guy."
Darling.

I talked to this guy about being a contractor to fill some occupational therapy needs with my old company. Seemed reasonably sane until we got his contract saying all disputes would be resolved solely through a "Texas Republic court" (hint no such thing exists in Texas' legal system.)

We have been having a mild winter this year so far. We got through Dec. & almost Jan. (predicted to be in mid 60s tomorrow & Tues.). Last year in Dec. & Jan. it was quite a bit colder & lots more snow. We only had snow once (1 inch or so that melted later in the day). We'll see what Feb. & March brings.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
